If there was any doubt in the growth of the API economy, it should be disappearing: APIs are fast becoming a standard means of doing business for many companies. Mobile apps are driving a lot of this growth, too, since they rely on APIs to do, as the PW guys put it, “anything interesting”.

In our latest monthly report, we cover the first step towards API success: building a valuable API for developers. The huge amount of APIs out there means that whatever it is you’re trying do to, you’ve probably got some competition. Substandard offerings (either through design, pricing, or another factor) are going to have a hard time getting traction. So do your homework — check out the competition, see who else is in the space and determine what you can do better.
